The short answer? Yes. Yes, it does.
Before I went on my very first cruise back in 2016, I’d read on the Disney Cruise Line discussion forum on DISBoards that you should pick a midship room somewhere between Deck 5-7 if you’ve never cruised before. The reasoning is that a stateroom in that general vicinity is located in the middle of the ship from top to bottom and from front to back, hopefully with little to no rocking if the seas are rough.
Thankfully, I had no seasickness issues on my first cruise. On subsequent cruises, I tried different stateroom locations, and everything was fine on those, too. I always bring Seabands and a fresh box of Bonine just in case of any issues because you never know when things could change.
I’ve been very lucky with stateroom assignments on ten out of eleven of my last Disney cruises, even when I’ve booked a guaranteed stateroom. I’ve stayed in Forward, Aft, and Midship staterooms in various categories and Disney cruise ships, but I’ve never stayed in a stateroom that was all the way at the far Aft or Forward until my most recent cruise onboard the Disney Fantasy.

I was in stateroom number 6182. As you can see in the deck plan above, it’s located nearly as far to the Aft as you can be. I found that there was significant engine noise and vibration as the ship left the port and during docking. If that’s something you think might bother you, you might not want to be that far back.
The bottom line is that the location of your stateroom on a Disney cruise can make a big difference in your comfort, especially if you’re sensitive to engine vibrations or motion. For the smoothest ride, consider booking a midship stateroom on a lower deck, where you’ll feel less rocking and engine rumble. Avoid aft cabins if you’re concerned about vibrations from the ship’s propulsion system, and steer clear of forward staterooms if you’re prone to seasickness, as they can feel more of the ship’s movement. Choosing the right spot ensures a more relaxing and magical sailing experience!
