Disney Cruise Line is rolling out an update to its alcohol policy, reducing how much guests can bring onboard while also lowering the corkage fee in the dining rooms.
Under the new policy, guests ages 21 and older may now bring one unopened bottle of wine or champagne (up to 750 ml) per person at embarkation, down from the previous allowance of two bottles. Alternatively, guests may bring up to six beers (12 oz each). As before, all alcohol must be packed in carry-on luggage.
At the same time, Disney is lowering its corkage fee from $29 to $20 per bottle, making it slightly more affordable for guests who choose to enjoy their own wine in the main dining rooms.
Another key detail remains unchanged but worth noting: any alcohol purchased in ports of call will be held by the ship and returned to guests at the end of the voyage.
Disney notes that these updates bring its policies more in line with broader cruise industry standards while still offering guests some flexibility when it comes to bringing beverages onboard.
The rollout is happening in phases across the fleet:
- June 3: Disney Fantasy
- June 4: Disney Adventure and Disney Magic
- June 5: Disney Wish
- June 6: Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny
- June 8: Disney Dream and Disney Wonder
This upcoming change is already sparking mixed reactions among frequent cruisers. The reduced wine allowance may be disappointing for some guests who have come to rely on bringing multiple bottles onboard, especially for longer sailings or special celebrations. However, the lower corkage fee could soften the impact for those planning to enjoy their own wine during dinner service.
As always, it’s a good idea for guests sailing to double-check which version of the policy applies to their specific ship and sail date.
