Disney Cruise Line is adjusting the timeline for its future fleet expansion, with two of its upcoming ships now expected to enter service earlier than originally planned. The company previously announced plans to grow its fleet to 13 ships by 2031, expanding beyond its existing fleet of five ships: the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish. Since that announcement, Disney Cruise Line has added three additional ships to the fleet with the launches of the Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny, and Disney Adventure.
Still on track for 2027 is the Disney Believe, the fourth Wish-class ship following the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. In today’s shareholder update, Disney confirmed the Believe is expected to debut late in 2027. More details about the Disney Believe are expected during a livestream reveal event on October 7th, 2026.
The fifth Wish-class ship, which will be operated by Oriental Land Company, the company behind Tokyo Disney Resort, remains scheduled to launch in 2029. The ship will sail from Japan, though Disney and OLC have not yet announced its name.
The final three ships in Disney Cruise Line’s expansion plan will introduce a new class of smaller vessels, positioned between the existing Magic-class and Dream-class ships in size. Originally, Disney planned to launch these ships in 2029, 2030, and 2031.
Disney Cruise Line Timeline Update
In a new graphic released by Disney alongside this morning’s Quarter 3 Earnings Report, Disney Cruise Line’s timeline has changed.
Ship 12 has been moved forward to 2029, joining both ship 11 and the OLC-operated vessel as part of a planned three-ship launch year. Ship 13 has also been moved up and is now expected to debut in 2030.
If the current schedule holds, Disney Cruise Line’s expanded 13-ship fleet will be fully operational by the end of 2030, one year earlier than previously planned.
Disney has not yet revealed the names of the Oriental Land Company ship or the three smaller ships. With the upcoming D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event taking place in just a few days, we may not have to wait much longer for additional details about the future of Disney Cruise Line.
