According to an article in Seatrade Cruise News, of the four new Disney Cruise Line ships arriving between 2027 and 2031, one will be a Wish-class ship in 2027, and the following three ships will have a 3,000-passenger capacity in a new class. Before this new article was published, DCL hadn’t disclosed any details about the size or class of the upcoming ships.
The fourth 144,000 GT LNG-powered Wish-class ship, which can accommodate 4,000 passengers, will debut in 2027. Three additional ships, each around 100,000 GT and capable of accommodating 3,000 passengers, will follow in 2029, 2030, and 2031. This new class is 20% larger than Disney Cruise Line’s original Disney Magic and Disney Wonder but smaller than the Dream and Wish classes. It will ultimately allow Disney Cruise Line to access more ports and destinations across the globe, bringing uniquely Disney experiences to more families in more places.
The three new ships will forgo LNG and instead operate on various fuels like hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and renewable methanol, with flexibility for future fuel innovations in the cruise industry.
Disney says that the new ships will be among the lightest for their size. They will feature a streamlined hull, advanced power and propulsion systems, and energy-efficient operations to save fuel. The ships will have a battery system to support and supplement the main engines. While in port, they will be able to shut down their engines and use shore power.
