Is Disney Cruise Line Worth It? Let’s Break It Down

Jackie Gailey

Every time I price out a Disney cruise for my husband and me, for a personal vacation, not a work trip, I have the same reaction. Wow.

Not in a “this is going to be amazing” kind of way. More like, this is a lot of money. And if you’ve cruised with Disney before, you likely already know that feeling.

So the question becomes pretty simple: is it actually worth it anymore?

After multiple Disney cruises over the years, I’m confident that the answer is still yes, but it’s not quite as straightforward as it used to be.

What Still Justifies the Price

There are a few things Disney Cruise Line still does exceptionally well, and honestly, it’s why people keep coming back.

The biggest one is service.

It’s consistent in a way that’s hard to explain until you experience it. Crew members remember your name, your drink order, and somehow seem to anticipate what you need before you ask. That last one is a biggie. When you think about the number of guests these crew members interact with, the fact that they can remember some of your little nuances from their first interaction with you is pretty incredible. There’s a level of ease to the entire experience that you don’t always find on other vacations.

The photo above is from our first night when our stateroom host left extra chocolates because my husband told her they were his very favorite. She left extras every night for our whole cruise, and he was the happiest camper, as there were plenty to take home. The photo at the top of this article was taken on the second night!

Then there’s the entertainment.

The stage shows alone are always worth carving out time for. They’re polished, high-energy, and feel closer to Broadway than something you’d expect on a cruise ship. And, yes, many of them are familiar stories that we know and love, but they’re just different enough from the originals to make them worth seeing. It always blows me away that the performers can do what they do even as the ship rocks and rolls through high wind and waves.

Add in deck parties, fireworks at sea, and character moments that feel a little more relaxed than the parks, and it really starts to add up.

And maybe the biggest thing of all, it’s just easy.

You’re not booking Lightning Lanes. You’re not crisscrossing the theme parks all day trying to maximize every minute. Everything is right there for you, and you can take the day at your own pace. That simplicity has real value, especially if you’re used to the intensity of a Disney park trip. Plus, your stateroom is just steps away from anywhere on the ship. If you need a midday nap, you’re not far from it.

Where the Value Starts to Slip

That said, it’s impossible to ignore how much prices have climbed.

For a lot of families, Disney Cruise Line now sits firmly in the “this is a splurge” category. And once you’re paying that kind of price, you start looking a little more closely at what you’re actually getting.

Then there are the extras.

Specialty dining like Palo or Remy, port excursions, drinks, Wi-Fi – it all adds up quickly. While a lot is included, it doesn’t take much for the total cost of your trip to climb higher than expected.

Even the food, while good, isn’t always the standout people expect across the board. Rotational dining is fun and themed well, but not every meal feels like it matches the premium price tag on its own.

None of this ruins the experience, but it can shift how people look at the overall value.

Who It’s Really Worth It For

This is where it gets more personal.

If you’re someone who values convenience, consistency, and a vacation where everything just works, Disney Cruise Line still delivers in a big way. It’s one of the easiest vacations you can take, and that matters more than people sometimes realize.

It also makes a lot of sense if you enjoy the Disney atmosphere but want a more relaxed way to experience it.

But if you’re comparing strictly on price, or trying to get the most bang for your buck, it gets harder to justify. There are other cruise lines that offer more space or lower prices for a similar itinerary.

My Honest Take

I’ve questioned the price more than once. And yet, I keep booking another one, albeit sometimes for work purposes, simply because I love that style of vacationing. I’m forever trying to get my entire family to go on a Disney cruise before my niece and nephews grow into adults.

Because at the end of the day, there’s something about a Disney cruise that just feels different. It’s not just what you do, it’s how it all comes together. The service, the atmosphere, the pacing – it all works in a way that’s hard to replicate.

Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? I still think it is. But it depends on what you’re looking for.

So now I’m curious, do you think Disney Cruise Line is still worth the price?
