Disney Cruise Line is known for its exceptional service and family-friendly atmosphere, where guests of all ages can enjoy a variety of delicious dining options. While us grown-ups typically choose meals from the main menu, it’s not uncommon to opt for a kids’ meal. Whether you’re feeling nostalgic for childhood favorites or simply looking for a lighter, simpler meal, Disney Cruise Line offers the flexibility to order from the children’s menu—no matter your age.
For instance, if you don’t enjoy the food of Pirate Night, you’re not alone. In my cruising experience, I typically schedule a Palo dinner for Pirate Night, then enjoy the Buccaneer Blast party and fireworks from the top deck afterwards. But, if Palo isn’t an option for your budget or group plans, or if you’d like to be able to enjoy the atmosphere of Pirate Night from your scheduled dining room, consider ordering a kids meal to broaden your pirate palette.

On our recent cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy, I wanted to give the Pirate Night menu another shot. This is the only night where each of the rotational dining rooms onboard feature the same dinner menu, and in my experience, it’s not the most popular. Upon sitting in my Mickey Mouse seat and reviewing my meal options, I really wasn’t finding anything I’d be happy with. It was night three out of five on our voyage when I ventured where I hadn’t on any Disney Cruise before: the Kids’ Menu.
These uncharted waters weren’t all that terrifying, after all. Our wait staff were lovely and understanding of my choice in “simple” buttered noodles, grilled chicken and vegetables (I ended up ordering more chicken and broccoli, too!). They also threw in the side of steak fries which typically comes with kids meals. Other options include Macaroni & Cheese and Chicken Tenders. Plus, you get to enjoy your dinner on the Mickey-shaped plate! YES: embrace that inner child.

Why Would an Adult Order a Kids’ Meal?
Because… why not?! It’s completely allowed and included on a Disney Cruise. Here are some more reasons why those ‘young at heart’ may order from the menu meant for the kiddies:
- Portion Size: Kids’ meals are typically smaller in size, making them a great option for adults who prefer lighter meals or have a smaller appetite.
- Familiar Favorites: Kids’ menus often feature beloved comfort foods, such as macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, or pasta. Adults who want a nostalgic taste of childhood can indulge in these simple yet satisfying dishes.
- Dietary Preferences: Some adults may prefer the simplicity of a kids’ meal for dietary reasons or may find the options on the adult menu a bit too rich or complex.
Disney Cruise Line is all about making sure everyone onboard has a magical experience, no matter their age. Whether you’re indulging in your favorite childhood meal, looking for a smaller portion, or simply enjoying the flexibility of Disney’s dining options, ordering a kids’ meal as an adult is a fun and easy way to customize your dining experience on board — or improve your Pirate Night dinner… if only a little. So, don’t be afraid to get those buttered noodles or chicken tenders next time the dinner menu isn’t to your liking!
