If you’ve sailed with Disney Cruise Line more than once, you already know the drill. You get your Key to the World card. You get the lanyard. You insert your card into the cardholder. You use it nonstop for days. Then you get home… and it goes in a drawer (or the trash if you’re not sentimental!) unless you take the advice I shared earlier this week on what to do with all that “stuff” you bring home from Disney vacations. Seriously, though, how many of those can you glue into your newest junk journaling obsession before it’s too many?
But what if I told you that little cardholder can have a second life? Especially now with the newer ones that feature Captain Mickey Mouse.
Here’s the idea. Take the cardholder part off the lanyard. Grab a small zip tie. Thread it through the hole at the top. Boom. You’ve got yourself an adorable, Disney-centric luggage tag that looks way cuter than anything you can buy, in my opinion, of course.

And honestly? It’s perfect. You may even have enough tucked away for all of your luggage at this point.

The cardholder is already sturdy. It’s already cruise-branded. Some of them are themed to the ship or even special sailings. Some even feel a little collectible, especially if you’ve got inaugural sailings, Maiden Voyages, or several Castaway Club level versions tucked away. Turning them into luggage tags lets you actually use them instead of hiding them in a memory box.
I love this idea because it’s simple and practical, but still very “Disney adult in the best way.” It doesn’t scream theme park merch. It’s more of a quiet flex. The kind where another cruiser spots it on the luggage carousel at the airport and gives you that knowing nod. You know the one.

The zip tie trick also keeps things secure. No flapping paper tags. No worrying about rain. Just a clean, lightweight tag that holds your info and travels well. You can even swap it out depending on which ship you’re sailing next.

Best part? You’re probably already sitting on everything you need to do this. If your significant other is anything like mine, they likely have zip ties in a million different colors and sizes out in the garage.
So before you toss that next lanyard into a drawer, take another look at the cardholder. With one tiny zip tie, it might just become your new favorite piece of cruise luggage flair.
If you try this, I need to know. And if you’ve got other clever ways you reuse Disney Cruise Line odds and ends, please tell me. I love this kind of stuff way too much.
