There’s something pretty magical about celebrating Halloween on a Disney Cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean! I recently sailed aboard the Disney Treasure for one of its Halloween on the High Seas cruises, and if you love Disney’s version of spooky season… you can’t miss this!
Think Halloween decorations, Disney characters in costumes, trick-or-treating, themed entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to dress up. All of this comes with your regular Disney cruise vacation, including the Broadway-style shows, rotational dining, pools, and ports of call.

Disney offers Halloween on the High Seas on select sailings during September and October, with festivities that the whole family can enjoy. While I experienced the celebration aboard the Disney Treasure, you’ll find many of the same Halloween traditions across the fleet, along with a few surprises unique to each ship.
The Halloween Decorations and Enchanted Pumpkin Trees
One of my favorite things about Disney’s Halloween celebrations is the decorating, and Disney Cruise Line brings plenty of seasonal charm to its ships.
The centerpiece of each Halloween on the High Seas cruise is the Enchanted Pumpkin Tree, which you’ll find in the ship’s Grand Hall or atrium. Every Disney ship has its own tree, complete with a name, personality, and backstory. On the Disney Treasure, you’ll meet Ginger, a beautiful pumpkin tree that takes inspiration from Aladdin, featuring glowing jack-o’-lanterns with characters and iconography straight from Agrabah.

The other ships have their own trees, including Reap on the Disney Magic, Bog on the Disney Wonder, Grim on the Disney Dream, Muckelbones on the Disney Fantasy, Boo on the Disney Wish, and Solara on the Disney Destiny.
TIP: Be sure to catch the Pumpkin Tree storytelling ceremony, which brings the tree to life through music, lighting, and a little Halloween magic. This happens once at the start of your cruise. It’s a cute Disney Cruise Line tradition, and the trees make great photo opportunities throughout the voyage!
Disney Characters in Their Halloween Costumes
Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale all have special Halloween looks, and you’ll have opportunities to meet them and take photos throughout your sailing.
One of the most popular character experiences features Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Clarabelle Cow dressed as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. Their costumes are fantastic, and it’s really fun to see these three together.

— Another super special rare character opportunity: Oogie Boogie meets on select Halloween sailings!
TIP(s): DRESS UP! Your Halloween costume is an easy conversation starter for character interactions!
You’ll want to check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for character greeting times and locations. Some appearances draw longer lines than others, so I recommend making time for your must-see characters early in the cruise.
Mickey’s Mouse-Querade Party and Trick-or-Treating
What’s Halloween without a costume party? Mickey’s Mouse-Querade Party on the top deck brings Disney characters, Halloween music, and dancing together for a celebration at sea. It’s one of the signature events of Halloween on the High Seas, and guests of all ages can join the fun.

Watching Chip and Dale compete in a dance off was downright one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen on a Disney Cruise ship.

Did you know you can go trick-or-treating on a Disney cruise? It’s true — and it’s included! During the designated Halloween night during the voyage, everyone in the family can collect candy at designated locations around the ship – most are Mars candies, with some allergy-friendly options available, too. On this cruise, Cast Members were stationed at candy tables across decks 3, 4 and 5 near the Grand Hall areas.

I’d recommend packing a costume or two, even if it’s something simple. Disney encourages guests to dress up, and it’s fun to see what everyone comes up with. No pressure, but there are costume contests to enter into, too!

Halloween Activities, Movies, and Entertainment
Beyond the big Halloween party, you’ll find additional seasonal activities throughout your sailing, including Halloween-themed crafts, games, and other family activities.

Halloween movies and short films play in the onboard theaters or on deck, including Muppets Haunted Mansion, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular!.

And don’t forget about the regular cruise entertainment! Halloween on the High Seas doesn’t replace the activities you’d normally enjoy aboard your Disney ship. You can still spend your days at the pool, enjoy the live stage productions, visit the lounges, and participate in other onboard activities… such as eating churro Mickey waffles.

Depending on your itinerary, you’ll probably also have Pirate Night during the same cruise. That’s another excuse to pack a costume and enjoy a different themed evening, including fireworks at sea!

Halloween Treats & Seasonal Merchandise
Of course, Disney couldn’t celebrate Halloween without some special food and drinks! Select dining locations and lounges offer seasonal desserts, themed beverages, coffees, and other Halloween treats during these sailings.

Exclusive novelties and merchandise are available onboard, too!

During my Disney Treasure sailing, I found Halloween on the High Seas merchandise at Mickey’s Mainsail, including designs that reminded me of vintage Halloween decorations. I always enjoy finding Disney merchandise that feels specific to a particular experience, and the Halloween cruise collections have some especially cute designs.

Is Halloween on the High Seas Worth Booking?
If you’re already considering a Disney cruise during the fall, I’d absolutely recommend looking at the Halloween on the High Seas itineraries.
You get all the usual Disney Cruise Line experiences with the addition of seasonal entertainment, decorations, character costumes, and activities. You don’t need to purchase a separate Halloween party ticket to enjoy the festivities, either. And unlike spending Halloween at the theme parks, you get to celebrate while sailing through the Caribbean. Just keep in mind that not every fall Disney cruise includes Halloween on the High Seas. You’ll want to look for the specially designated sailings when planning your trip!

Fall 2027 is ready to book! If you’re thinking about sailing next Halloween, our travel professionals at Dreams Unlimited Travel can help you find the right ship and itinerary. Plus, qualifying Disney Cruise Line reservations can receive up to $1,000 in onboard credit when booking through Dreams!

I already love Disney’s Halloween traditions on land, but getting to experience them aboard the Disney Treasure made for a pretty memorable October vacation. Between the decorations, characters, and all the seasonal extras, Halloween on the High Seas is one Disney Cruise Line experience I’d happily do again! Until next time, stay spooky!
