One of my favorite things about sailing with Disney Cruise Line is seeing how much effort goes into the little details, especially during a themed cruise. Whether you’re sailing for Halloween on the High Seas or a Very Merrytime holiday cruise, there’s always something fun to discover around the ship. Sometimes, it’s something you might walk right past if you’re not paying attention!
Take these enormous porthole windows aboard the Disney Wish, for example. During Halloween on the High Seas, they feature some pretty incredible artwork of familiar Disney characters, and I couldn’t get enough of them.

The designs use colorful, flowing lines that bring the characters to life right on the glass. At first glance, some of them almost look like random swirls, but once you spot a familiar face, you can’t unsee it. And because they’re on the windows, the artwork looks different depending on what’s happening outside. You might have the beautiful blue ocean behind a Disney Villain one day and a gorgeous island view the next.

I especially love the creativity behind these designs. Whoever came up with them managed to capture the personalities of some of our favorite spooky Disney characters using what looks like just a handful of carefully placed lines. There’s something really fun about recognizing a character without seeing a fully detailed illustration.

And let’s talk about the size of these windows! They’re huge! That makes the artwork even more impressive, especially when you come across several of them while wandering around the ship.

It’s these kinds of touches that make Disney’s themed cruises so much fun for me. There are the big celebrations and special entertainment offerings, of course, but I also enjoy finding the decorations and artwork tucked into different areas of the ship. You never know what you’re going to notice when you take a different route to dinner or stop to look around.

I’m getting ready to sail on a Very Merrytime Disney cruise next month, and now I’m wondering whether I’ll find Christmas versions of these decorated portholes. Wouldn’t it be fun to see Mickey and Minnie dressed for the holidays, or some other favorite Disney characters worked into festive designs?
I have no idea whether Disney switches out these particular window decorations for the Christmas season, but you can bet I’ll be looking!
In the meantime, take a look through these photos and see how many characters you recognize. Some are definitely easier to spot than others. I think they’re such a clever way to bring a little extra Halloween fun aboard the Disney Wish, and I’d love to see more artwork like this on future sailings and other ships.
