Where Are Thirteen Disney Cruise Ships Going to Go?

At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Cruise Line announced that an additional four ships will join the fleet. With five ships in the current fleet and four others already in the works, the additional four ships announced Saturday will bring DCL’s fleet to a total of 13. These new ships, which will debut between 2027 and 2031, will be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, and the ship names, designs and itineraries are still in development.

This was such fun news to hear! Given all of the stories Disney has yet to tell aboard its cruise ships, the possibilities for theming are practically endless. Also, could we have a lounge themed with Inside Out where Anxiety and Ennui are the stars and the menu is filled with calming snacks and beverages? C’mon, you know you’d love it! I realize that we’ve already got a sweet shop on the Disney Wish with Inside Out characters, but I need an adults-only spot for them, and Anxiety is my fave.

For me, more importantly than the themes and designs of these ships, I am trying to work out where they are all going to go. Will there be two ships out of Port Canaveral doing 3- and 4-night sailings? It’d be cool to have two ships to choose from with those shorter itineraries, especially because I feel like first-time cruisers should choose from those before they go on a longer cruise.

Maybe they will have cruises year-round from Southern California? Honestly, I feel as though they could fill two ships sailing out of California, especially if they have one doing 3- and 4-night itineraries and the other one doing 5-, 6-, or 7-night sailings. I’d love to do a land and sea vacation combining my two most favorite things in the world – Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line! Anything goes while we’re doing a bit of armchair imagineering, right?

One thing I noticed during the D23 presentation when they were scrolling through different Disney Destinations was an image with a Disney cruise ship sailing under a huge Aulani logo. Now, I know that DCL does a couple of repositioning cruises to Hawai’i during the off-season in Alaska, but how incredible would it be to have year-round sailings to the Hawaiian Islands? I mean, seriously, why couldn’t they sail year-round like they do to The Bahamas and the Caribbean? Those Hawaiian cruises sell out in a hot second and I’m all for giving the people what they want.

Oh, and can we please have a year-round cruise with a homeport in Seattle? It’s not asking much for just one out of thirteen ships to sail out of Seattle, is it? The only thing that could make that better is if the ship called on a port in Southern California so I could avoid flying altogether. Wow, I’m really dreaming over here.

I suppose one or two of the ships could go overseas, too. Other cruise lines have so many ships worldwide, and Disney definitely has ample room to grow. It’s going to be so interesting to learn more about what DCL has planned for all of the new ships. In the meantime, we have the Disney Treasure and the Disney Destiny getting ready to join the Wish Class with their debut and I am here for all of it!

Are you excited about this new group of Disney ships? I’m hoping that we get to see a new class of ship and I can hardly wait for more details!
