Disney Cruise Line has announced Broadway star Susan Egan as the official godparent of the Disney Destiny, the fleet’s newest heroes-and-villains–inspired ship. Egan, best known to Disney fans as the voice of Megara in Hercules and the original Belle in Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast, will take on the ceremonial role during the ship’s christening. The longstanding maritime tradition calls for a ship’s godparent to bless the vessel, offering good fortune to its crew and all who sail aboard.
Egan’s connection to the Disney Destiny runs deeper than tradition. The ship features several venues and entertainment experiences inspired by beloved Disney stories that she helped shape. Most notably, the ship will debut Disney Hercules, a new Broadway-style stage show retelling the animated film’s iconic mythology and humor. Guests will also be able to visit Café Megara, a Hercules-inspired lounge that nods to Megara’s bold personality and distinctive aesthetic.
Her influence can also be felt in areas tied to Beauty and the Beast, including The Rose, an elegant French-inspired lounge, and Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement, a fine dining restaurant themed to the enchanted world of the animated classic. Both offer adults refined dining and beverage experiences in settings inspired by the tale Egan helped bring to life on stage.
Beyond her signature roles, Egan has remained connected to Disney through musical performances and creative work with Disney Music Group. Naming her godparent of the Disney Destiny recognizes both her artistic legacy and her ongoing influence in Disney storytelling.
