Yes, 25%.
For years, the familiar Disney Cruise Line Placeholder offer has largely meant a 10% discount on eligible future cruises when guests book a placeholder reservation before leaving the ship. More recently, we’ve seen Disney introduce enhanced savings of 20% on select dates, with a smaller number of sailings discounted by 25%.
Now Disney has updated its list of eligible sailings again, extending the available dates through September 2027 and offering savings of up to 25% when an eligible placeholder is applied.
That’s a significant change for anyone who already has a placeholder sitting in their Disney Cruise Line account.
Already Booked? Check Your Reservation
Here’s perhaps the BEST part of today’s announcement.
If you’ve already booked a placeholder and your sailing now qualifies for a higher discount, Disney will automatically apply the increased savings to your reservation. You don’t need to cancel and rebook to receive the better offer.
And Disney isn’t leaving out guests who have already made their final payment. If your reservation is paid in full and becomes eligible for a larger discount, the difference will be refunded to your original form of payment.
Beginning September 22, affected guests and Travel Advisors will receive an email letting them know when the discount on an existing reservation has increased.
As always, your Dreams Unlimited Travel agent will keep a close eye on your reservations as well, and reach out to you if a new discount can be applied.
Why This Is Such a Big Deal
Disney Cruise Line’s onboard offer has always been one of the easiest reasons to put down a placeholder while you’re still sailing. If you think there’s even a decent chance you’ll cruise with Disney again within the required booking window, locking in access to a future discount has traditionally made a lot of sense.
But 10% and 25% are two VERY different numbers.
On a Disney cruise costing several thousand dollars, an additional 10% or 15% off the voyage fare can translate into substantial savings. Of course, the full 25% isn’t available on every sailing, and Disney’s usual eligibility requirements and restrictions still apply. The important thing here is that a placeholder now has the potential to unlock a much larger discount than many longtime Disney cruisers associate with the program.
Disney Cruise Line has also been offering more discounts across the board recently, including restricted-category rates and other targeted promotions. But their onboard offer is different because guests essentially secure access to it before they even know which eligible cruise they’ll eventually book.
Don’t Toss That Placeholder Aside
If you’ve already got an unused placeholder, this is definitely the time to take another look at the updated eligible sailing list below. And if you’re currently booked using one, watch your email because you might be getting a very pleasant little Disney Cruise Line surprise.
For those of us who remember when the standard 10% onboard booking discount was basically the whole story, seeing Disney advertise savings of up to 25% on eligible sailings is pretty remarkable.
And suddenly, that placeholder you booked before disembarking looks a whole lot more valuable.

Important Details for the Placeholder Reservation – Onboard Offer
- Offer available only for Guests sailing on a Disney cruise.
- Limit one future cruise booking per household, for a maximum of 2 staterooms.
- Requires a $250 USD deposit per stateroom at the time of booking the Placeholder Reservation.
- Discount applies to voyage fare. Taxes, fees and port expenses are not included.
- Future cruise must sail within 24 months after the Placeholder Reservation is booked.
- An eligible sailing must be selected as a future cruise and at least one member of the original sailing party must sail in one of the staterooms.
- Once a Placeholder Reservation is converted to a confirmed reservation, it cannot be changed back to a Placeholder Reservation and standard cancellation fees apply.
- If a confirmed reservation is changed and the future cruise is not an eligible sailing, this onboard offer will not apply and the prevailing rate as quoted on DisneyCruise.com will be charged.
- Deposit is fully refundable if you cancel the Placeholder Reservation or fail to select a future cruise within the allocated timeframe.
