While sailing with Disney Cruise Line, you will not need to carry cash or credit cards for everyday purchases while on board the ship. All purchases of products and services during your cruise can be charged to your stateroom folio account. This includes onboard spending such as beverages, spa treatments, merchandise, photos, and gratuities. Cashless payment is the preferred method while on board, and all charges are priced in United States Dollars (USD).
Before you travel, check with your credit or debit card company to inform them of your plans. Letting your financial institution know you will be outside your home country can help prevent transaction issues. It is recommended to use a credit card rather than a debit card to minimize the chance of a hold being placed on your available funds.
During your online check-in before your Disney Cruise Line sailing, you will be asked to provide a form of payment for onboard expenses. Accepted credit cards include:
– Visa
– MasterCard
– Disney Visa Credit Card
– American Express
– Discover Credit Card
– Diners Club International
– Japanese Credit Bureau (JCB)
– China UnionPay
Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) cards are not accepted. Also, if your credit card is issued by a bank outside the United States, it may be subject to foreign transaction fees and currency conversion charges. Contact your bank prior to travel to confirm whether such fees apply and to avoid rejection of charges due to international use.
Once on board, you will not need to carry cash or a credit card to pay for incidental purchases, as the charges will be posted directly to your stateroom’s folio. Guests who prefer to pay with cash can do so at the ship’s Guest Services desk. Payment in USD is accepted across all Disney Cruise Line ships. For cruises onboard Disney Adventure, both United States Dollars and Singapore Dollars (SGD) are accepted. All cash transactions made onboard are rounded up to the nearest whole dollar. The onboard exchange rates can change without notice and may differ from bank exchange rates. If you plan to pay in cash, it is advised to exchange currency before boarding the ship.
Throughout the sailing, the credit card placed on file will be automatically charged each time the balance on your stateroom folio reaches the following amounts, based on the length of the cruise:
– $300 USD for cruises 2 to 5 nights
– $500 USD for cruises 6 to 9 nights
– $700 USD for cruises of 10 nights or more
If you have placed a credit card on file in advance, you will not need to visit Guest Services to settle your folio. However, if you prefer, you may settle your charges at the Guest Services desk at the end of the cruise. Acceptable forms of final payment include cash, debit card, Disney Gift Card, or American Express Travelers Cheques denominated in US dollars.
While aboard, the ship operates using a cashless transaction system. However, when you go ashore during port visits, having cash or an accepted credit card is recommended for purchasing food, souvenirs, or other items. In The Bahamas and the Caribbean, US dollars and major credit cards are generally accepted without issue. In European ports, as well as destinations like Australia and New Zealand, many local merchants accept major credit cards, primarily Visa or MasterCard with EMV chips.
For cruises sailing in Europe, a limited quantity of euros may be exchanged at the Guest Services desk for onboard spending or minor port purchases. Keep in mind that euro availability may be limited. For that reason, obtaining local currency prior to arriving at foreign ports may be more reliable.
Guests on Disney Adventure itineraries should be prepared with either United States Dollars or Singapore Dollars for payment, depending on the port of call. This ship accepts both currencies for onboard transactions.
Before your cruise begins, ensure your payment method is accepted and alert your card issuer. Review any international card fees that could apply. Bring limited cash for port visits, and consider using the stateroom folio for simplicity during onboard purchases. By preparing ahead, you can streamline your payment process on Disney Cruise Line and focus on the activities and experiences during your cruise vacation.
