Underrated Disney Cruise Things You’ll Fall in Love With

Chloé Ferreira

When you think about a Disney Cruise, the first things that come to mind are usually the Broadway-caliber shows, character meet-and-greets, the immersive dining rooms, and port destinations. But beyond the headliners, there are so many small, underrated amenities that make sailing with Disney truly special. These little details often become the memories cruisers cherish the most. Here are a few of my favorites!

The Signature Disney Cruise Scent

Ask any repeat cruiser, and they’ll tell you about the smell. It’s a fresh, sweet and salty aroma noticeable the moment you step onboard and especially present throughout the ship’s atrium, elevator bays and stateroom hallways during your voyage. It’s amazing what scent memories can do, and this one always translates to an instant vacation.

Disney Treasure Grand Hall

Fun fact: Disney actually sells this scent in certain onboard shops. On the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, for example, you may find it at Sea Treasures. Just ask an onboard shop Cast Member on your next sailing!

“Scent of the Seas”, makes memories one smile at a time. Composed with our favorite childhood dreams: Birthday Cake, Strawberry Milk Shake, Suntan Lotion, Whipped Cream, Happiness, Magic and a bit of Pixie Dust … Scent of the Seas creates Childlike Wonder on every Disney Cruise.

The Music That Follows You Everywhere

Step onto a Disney ship and you’re immediately enveloped in music. Not just any music… Disney instrumentals carefully chosen to set the mood. You’ll hear sweeping tracks from films like Aladdin, Hercules, The Lion King, and more unique selections including The Princess Diaries orchestral suite and Rainbow Connection (yes, Kermit’s version!), as well as popular Pixar film compositions. I’ve noticed the shops often play Disney Parks background music, including EPCOT’s [old] Illuminations: Reflections of Earth.

On Pirate Night, the tone changes completely as music from Pirates of the Caribbean films and theme park attractions echo throughout the decks, while tropical music plays during Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay port days!

Whenever I daydream about my next cruise, somehow I’m always walking down the stateroom hall to my next activity with those soft Disney tunes playing overhead.

Late-Night Walks Around the Ship

Once the shows are over, the bars and entertainment venues are closed, and most cruisers retreat to their staterooms, the ship takes on a whole new personality. In case you miss one of the last movie showings on the FunnelVision, late-night walks are a peaceful way to explore.

Whether it’s quiet hallways, moonlit decks, or simply enjoying the sea breeze. The background music eventually powers down, so slipping on headphones and creating your own soundtrack makes it even more personal. It’s one of the most relaxing ways to experience the ship without the daytime crowds. Don’t miss those late-night top deck zen moments!

Almond Croissants at Palo Brunch

Sure, the Chicken Parm is great, but how about that pastry dish?

Alright, this one’s a little more obscure, but I had to include it as I can’t stop thinking about the *perfect* almond croissant from my last Disney Cruise. Palo’s brunch service is a must-do for many adults onboard, but one underrated highlight is the almond croissant. Flaky, buttery, and perfectly sweet, it’s a pastry that can steal the spotlight from the main dishes.

One bite and I ordered a few extra for the table (and maybe one to take back to my room for breakfast the next morning…).
