July 30, 2020 is the 22nd birthday of the beautiful Disney Magic (and Disney Cruise Line). I’ve had the pleasure of sailing on the Magic three times, including the 10th anniversary sailing, so I thought I would share some of my favorite memories.
2005
Our first cruise on the Magic (and first Disney Cruise) departed 15 years ago today on July 30, 2005. That was the first summer that the Disney Magic made the trip out to California to sail the Mexican Riviera.
The first photo is what cemented our love for Disney Cruise Line. West wasn’t old enough for the Oceaneer Club yet, so he spent some time in the nursery. One evening as we picked him up, Alice was rocking him to sleep on her lap. The feels!!

2008
Our next Disney Cruise was three years later and was again to the Mexican Riviera aboard the Magic departing July 27, 2008. This was also the our first trip after I discovered the DISboards and the cruise meets threads.
We didn’t know it at the time, but again we were onboard for the ship’s birthday, this time it’s 10 year anniversary. The celebration was small, with a brief deck party and a cake at dinner.
Again, there was a moment that reinforced our love of Disney Cruise Line, this time in the dining room. When our server learned that West and the young boys we were traveling with didn’t really enjoy the appetizers being offered, but LOVED shrimp, there was somehow shrimp for them at every dinner.

2014
My most recent sailing on the Disney Magic was DIS Unplugged Podcast Cruise 5.0 that departed November 30, 2014 and headed to the Western Caribbean.
I was pretty bad about taking pictures that trip, but I was able to find some fun memories in an old file dump from my phone. Here’s a shot of West (what a difference 6 years makes) and Brent, who was also the Cruise Director on our 2005 sailing.
Here’s a few more memories from that trip:
As I was furiously digging for pictures this morning, there were pictures of the ship, of course. I think though, that the real memories are made with your family and the fabulous crew onboard, so that’s what I shared.
