Everything MagicBand+ Can Do on Disney Cruise Line

ChloƩ Ferreira

If you’re sailing withĀ Disney Cruise Line, you’ll likely come across the DisneyBand+ (known as the MagicBand+ at Walt Disney World and Disneyland). It’s now being used across the fleet, with the exception of the Disney Adventure, which does not offer DisneyBand+ at all. And on the newer Wish Class ships, DisneyBand+ not only replaces the need to have your Key to the World Card constantly on you, but it also unlocks special interactive moments and scavenger hunts. Keep in mind, if you have an older MagicBand from the parks, it will not work on Disney’s cruise ships.

Here’s what the DisneyBand+ can do, and why the newer version is the one you’ll want to bring.

What You Can Do with DisneyBand+ on a Disney Cruise

Key to the World Card Replacement – DisneyBand+ acts as your room key, so you can tap your wrist to open your stateroom door. It also makes embarkation and debarkation days smoother, and simplifies getting on and off the ship at ports of call.

Charge Purchases to Your Room – You can use your band to pay for drinks, merchandise, and other onboard purchases. Everything links back to your stateroom folio, just like the standard cruise card.

Link Select Photos – DisneyBand+ can connect certain onboard photos to your account automatically, making it easier to keep track of your vacation memories without scanning anything each time.

They are fully waterproof, so it stays on for waterslides, pools, and ocean time, and rechargeable (with a charging cable included). Even if the battery runs out, it still works for room entry, purchases, and photos.

Interactive Features Around the Ship – DisneyBand+ ties into select onboard entertainment experiences. The band can light up, vibrate, and react in certain locations like dining rooms, the kids clubs, and even during shows and fireworks, adding small interactive moments as you move around the ship!

The Haunted Mansion ā€˜Happy Hunt’

The newest interactive addition on the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny is The Haunted Mansion-inspired scavenger hunt where you track down 12 friendly spirits. This ship-wide experience will have you visiting different locations and triggering interactive elements along the way. The band responds as you progress, helping guide you through the activity and bringing in familiar Haunted Mansion faces and details.

This game of hide and seek really surprised us on our latest sailing aboard the Destiny. The stylized Haunted Mansion is fun to take in on its own, but there are some really neat interactive effects hidden in plain view that are only unlocked with a DisneyBand+!

MagicBand+ keeps things simple for everyday use, but it also opens the door to a few newer experiences, especially on the latest ships. I wonder what’s in store for the Disney Believe…

If you’re pairing your Disney Cruise with a Walt Disney World vacation, it might be best to pick up at least one MagicBand+ for your family to partake in all of the land and sea interactive fun!
