Details of the Disney Treasure: MOANA Living Moss Art

Art is an essential part of the Disney Cruise Line experience. From the added layers of detail to the ship’s common areas, dining rooms, and staterooms, these elements of creativity and charm complement the whimsical world Disney is known for. As you explore a new Disney cruise ship, it’s always fun discovering the chosen concept art or new paintings onboard. If you frequent the stairwells, you know of the various framed art displayed between each deck. We love finding those rare three-dimensional works, interactive paintings with moving pieces, and expertly-crafted tile mosaics. Luckily, you’ll find all of these on the new Disney Treasure!

One of the best pieces we stumbled across was this beautiful installation featuring a lush Te Fiti and an itty bitty Moana — all made of living moss! This piece is located on the forward staircase, between decks 4 and 5.

Living moss art involves the use of various types of preserved moss to create vibrant, textured wall installations. The preserved moss has been treated to maintain its color and texture without the need for soil, water, or sunlight; pretty ideal for an inside stairwell location on a cruise ship! This piece adds a certain freshness to the area, a fun change-up from the traditional paintings or concept art found between other decks.

More Moana

While we’re on the subject of Moana and Te Fiti, we can’t recommend The Tale of Moana enough. This is the Treasure’s all-new broadway-style stage show performed inside the Walt Disney theater on each voyage. It’s a retelling of the story of Moana – with beautiful song performances, emotional moments, vibrant (and SHINY) costumes and set pieces, all enhanced with special effects and projections around the theater. But the cherry on top? The 15-foot fiery Te Kā puppet that moves all around the stage before finally transforming into Te Fiti. It’s a captivating and seamless transition you can’t take your eyes off of.
