Disney Cruise Line has revealed new details about the massive Titans of the Underworld puppets that will be featured in the upcoming Disney Hercules stage production aboard the newest ship in the Wish Class, the Disney Destiny. The Broadway-style show is one of the signature entertainment offerings on the ship, which is set to embark on its maiden voyage on November 20th of this year.

In a new Instagram video from @disneycruiseline, we have a look at the Titans puppets that were developed in collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment. Utilizing advanced exoskeleton technology, the puppets allow performers to control large-scale, animated figures directly from within. The technology enables full body movement and even allows the Titans’ mouths to move, creating a lifelike presence on stage.

These towering figures will represent the mythological Titans from the Underworld and serve as central antagonists during the climactic scenes of the show. The puppets were designed to deliver a “larger-than-life” theatrical experience, enhancing the visual storytelling with scale and motion never before seen in a Disney Cruise Line production.

The show will also feature a giant multi-headed Hydra puppet, in line with Disney’s ongoing use of large-scale puppetry seen in past productions like The Tale of Moana aboard the Disney Treasure. The Titans are expected to play a key role in the show’s epic showdown sequences with Hercules.

Here’s some side-by-side comparisons of the Titans puppets taking shape, next to their animated version from the film:

Disney Hercules will include well-known songs from the original 1997 animated film, such as “Go the Distance,” “Zero to Hero,” and “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love),” along with a newly-released song titled “Shooting Star” which didn’t make it into the original film; all written by Alan Menken and David Zippel.
Exclusive to the Disney Destiny, Disney Hercules combines innovative stagecraft, puppetry, and classic storytelling to bring Greek mythology and the beloved story of Hercules to life in a new way.
