Disney Cruise Line has officially welcomed the Disney Destiny to its growing fleet of cruise ships. The milestone was marked by a formal delivery ceremony held in Eemshaven, Netherlands, where ownership of the vessel was transferred from renowned shipbuilder Meyer Werft to Disney Cruise Line.
Constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, the Disney Destiny represents the latest in Disney’s tradition of combining cutting-edge shipbuilding with world-class entertainment. The vessel first floated out of the dry dock for the first time in August. More recently, it completed a series of successful sea trials in the North Sea, a critical step in preparing the ship for passenger service.
The delivery event was attended by senior Disney executives, including Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, and Sharon Siskie, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Cruise Line. Captain Andy McRonald, who will command the Disney Destiny, was also present, along with the beloved Captains Mickey and Minnie Mouse, symbolizing the magic that Disney brings to the high seas.
A Theme of Duality: Heroes vs. Villains
Now officially part of the Disney fleet, the Disney Destiny will soon begin its transatlantic voyage to its new homeport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The ship’s theme, “Heroes & Villains,” extends throughout the ship’s décor, entertainment offerings, dining experiences, and character appearances, including unique interactions with Dr. Facilier, Cruella de Vil and Dr. Strange’s themed lounges, the ever-popular Haunted Mansion Parlor, and the ship’s all-new exclusive Broadway-style production of Hercules.
