The interior preparations on the Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s newest upcoming cruise ship, are well underway, and we’ve got our first look at details coming to one of the new cafes on board the ship!
One of the new venues is Café Megara, one of two walk-up cafes located just off the Grand Hall. Disney Cruise Line has shared a behind-the-scenes look at how Walt Disney Imagineering is drawing inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film Hercules to create this heroic space.
Every design element in Café Megara, from the fabrics of the barstools and lounge chairs to the tiles on the accent walls, has been carefully selected by Imagineers. This creates a vibrant space that pays homage to ancient Greek mythology and its legendary heroes. The color palette is inspired by the film’s iconic characters, Megara and Pegasus, featuring shades of purple and blue.
Walt Disney Imagineers Beth Burkhardt and Rachel Willcoxon are featured in the top image as they review textile samples designed to create an atmosphere that transports future café guests to Mount Olympus. This includes a custom carpet pattern resembling clouds and wallpaper featuring hidden designs of Pegasus leaping through the clouds. As the Imagineers finalize their selections, the shipyard team is transforming the space from zero to hero!
