In the latest Ship’s Log for the Disney Destiny, the Disney Live Entertainment Costume Design & Development team has unveiled the first look at the entertainment costumes being created for Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, the all-new dining experience coming to the ship this November. The costumes, which are designed to enhance the immersive storytelling of Simba’s journey from cub to king, reflect both character-driven details and cultural inspirations.

Amanda Avila, Associate Costume Designer with Disney Live Entertainment, has led the creative process for the project. “The costumes take inspiration from the various regions of Africa, with a mix of both contemporary and traditional silhouettes and details,” Avila explained. “We wanted them to feel elevated and regal with nods to both the characters and the culture.”

That approach is woven into every piece. Many costumes incorporate cowrie shell details inspired by Benin in West Africa, where the shells symbolize prosperity, wealth, good luck, and destiny – a theme deeply connected to Simba’s story, as well as to the name of the ship itself.

The accessories, in particular, have been designed to help storytellers bring specific characters from Disney’s The Lion King to life. Each accessory symbolizes unique characteristics, giving visual cues that support the narrative. For example, the Scar accessories are the only pieces in the collection that incorporate the color black, a direct nod to his iconic mane. Avila has also included a single red feather in Scar’s headdress, placed above the left eye to represent his scar.

When Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King debuts aboard the Disney Destiny, guests will see these costumes up close as part of a performance that blends music, storytelling, and design into one immersive dining experience. With these elaborate costumes and accessories, Disney is once again setting the stage for an unforgettable voyage that celebrates both beloved characters and the cultural richness that inspired them.
