If you’ve spent even a moderate amount of time researching Disney Cruise Line, then you’ve probably come across stateroom categories like IGT, OGT and VGT. These represent various categories of guaranteed staterooms. IGT stands for Inside Guarantee, OGT for Oceanview Guarantee and VGT for Verandah Guarantee.
What is IGT/OGT/VGT?
A guarantee status basically means that you’ll be guaranteed a stateroom in that category (Inside, Oceanview of Verandah), but you WILL NOT be assigned a specific stateroom number at the time of booking. Your stateroom number will be assigned closer to your sail date. On occasion, a guarantee stateroom may be upgraded. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s not unheard of.
So, why would you want one of these staterooms? Namely, they’re less expensive. These are usually released after final payment for the cruise has passed. However, there are important restrictions you should know.
First, the cruise needs to be paid in full at the time of booking. Since these categories are only released AFTER the final payment date for a particular cruise, it must be paid in full. Also, you can not cancel or make changes to a guarantee status stateroom. This is important – there can be NO CHANGES OF ANY KIND TO A GTY STATEROOM.
These staterooms are not available on every sailing. If a ship has not sold out by the time final payment is due, this is one way Disney will attempt to fill rooms.
It’s VERY important to note, that while there is usually a savings on these staterooms, it’s not more than what you’d save by booking early.
How much will I save?
That’s a good question and varies from sailing to sailing. On average, you can expect to save as much as 20% but that is not a hard and fast rule.
Are these the same as GTY staterooms?
No, GTY status staterooms are different. They are the same as any regular booking (all the same deposit/change and cancellation rules apply). The only difference is you’re not assigned a stateroom at the time of booking. GTY status is not offered at a discount, and can be booked before final payment is due. It’s the exact same reservation as if you were getting assigned a stateroom.
