Remembering back to my first Disney cruise, I started thinking about how our embarkation day started and how I felt so special boarding a Disney ship for the first time.

I was very nervous about getting on a cruise ship as I’d never been on one before. You should know that I’m the person who looks at airplanes wondering how in the world they can fly, so you can bet that the thought of how these gigantic vessels could float has crossed my mind a time or two. The thought of being out in the middle of the ocean made me a bit nervous, but I was so excited at the same time that I could barely handle it.

As our bus approached Port Canaveral, I could see the Disney Dream in the distance waiting for us – please excuse the reflections in the photo as we were driving. It was the most beautiful ship of the few that were in port that morning, with Mickey in clear view.

When you arrive at the Disney Cruise Line terminal in Port Canaveral, you get in line to check-in for your cruise. Once you’ve handed over your cruise documents and received your lanyards and key cards, you’re given a boarding group number and then you wait in the terminal for your boarding group number to be called. Mickey Mouse is typically on-hand meeting and greeting guests and I recommend that you visit him as he’s got his Captain’s outfit on.

The excitement really began for me when our boarding group number was called. My heart was aflutter and I had butterflies in my stomach as we approached the entry to the bridge we’d walk over to enter the ship. Although I’m not a big fan of heights, I had to stop in the middle of the bridge and let out the most ridiculous “squee” you’ve ever heard because I couldn’t believe that I was really boarding the Disney Dream!

As we crossed over and onto the ship, we were personally welcomed by two rows of amazing Disney Cruise Line cast members who had giant smiles and open arms. I felt like a celebrity as we walked into the magnificent atrium which was decorated for the special Halloween on the High Seas sailing.

It was the start of what I knew would be the most incredible experience I’d ever had!
